Corrie Van Gossum

Corrie Van Gossum The idea of "making things myself", has been a part of me for as long as I know. As a child, I sew and knitted my clothing myself, and with small parts of cloth and threads I made small rag dolls. In my search for creativity, I came in touch with doll making on one of the doll fairs. And then I had to search even further for all different kinds of clay, accessories, cloth, ribbons, etc...

Sculpting relaxes me and is for me a moment of feeling to be somewhere else, and a good way to escape the everyday feeling.

What I want to symbolize with my fairy girls, is not particularly the fantasy of the fairy world, but the innocence of a young child, that comes on this earth "pure", as pure as the nature and its fantasy.

I always work by my intuition, I never measure or draw or take a look at pictures before I start sculpting. I just sculpt whatever comes out of my hands. This can get hard when I work on commission, but then I get the satisfaction out of pleasing the customer.

The great part of working by my intuition, is that when the doll is finished, I can see the emotions I had, at that moment I was sculpting the doll. But the best part is when people can actually see that and appreciate that.

You can see my work at my website www.elfenmeisjes.be but it would be even more fun if you could visit me at one of the doll fairs I attend.(my website: doll fairs )
